Shark Week 2012 Snacks

Shark Week can't come fast enough.

Okay, I'm slightly excited for this year's Shark Week. Not only is it the 25th anniversary but I'm having a small party and can't wait to decorate. I'm going to make some fun themed snacks and most of all watch the greatest show on television. It comes once a year and it is by far my favorite week.

First, I want you to watch the best Shark Week commercial I think I've seen yet. It's pretty great. Watch It Here! Mmmm, raises the hair on my legs! ;)

I will anticipating the T-Shirt I bought from Discovery store this week. Pretty cute, eh?

Here are a few snacks I think I'm going to try and recreate. Each of the following were found on another blogger's page. Be sure to click on the link and check them out!

1. Sharks on the Beach
This one comes from Muffin Tin Mom and is is adorable! In her assembly, she used 'Nilla Wafers but I think I'll use granola to stay healthy.

2. Sharks in the Water Cupcakes
These cute shark cupcakes come from Mish Mash Mom. There are no specific instructions, but you could use vanilla cupcake mix, or Red Velvet to act as blood, and blue dyed-vanilla icing. Add shark gummies on top and you'll be good to go!

3. Shark Watermelon
This might take a little time, but Rachel from Sun Scholars says it's easy. I would love to try this. Maybe I'll have to get my friend Kaylyn to help me with this one! It's too cute not to have.

4. Shark Shaped Sandwiches
Here's a great page for a whole shark and surf themed party. Kidlark the Blog has great printables and cute ideas for a fun beach party. I'm thinking these cute sandwiches will make a great snack for my party. Maybe Peanut Butter and Jelly-fish?? You know you love it.

I can't wait for my SW2K12 party! I know my friends are gonna have a JAWsome time. If not, I know I will!!

Turq and Red

About a year ago I was Facebook stalking and I came across a wedding that used the colors of turquoise and red. It was strange to me and I thought, at first, it wasn't that cute. But the more I see this awkward color combo the more I've found that I love it. It's a bright, unexpected pop of color that really works well for a room, an outfit, or a party! It is timeless and great for every season. Check out the few pictures below that I love:

This outfit would be great for a day at the office!

Love her lace blouse.

This beats the cliche navy and red nautical theme. Love the coral!

This circus theme party invitation is too cute.

A retro red and turq kitchen. I love the b&w striped rug for added interest!

A pop of red, PERFECT!
I could see this as a cute Christmas theme too ;)

Cute wedding theme. Love the ladies.

Do you love it??

A Chaise for Everyone!

I'm going to the beach this weekend and I knew I had to purchase a new book to take with me! One of the best things to do at the beach is laying out by the pool in one of those Adirondack lounge chairs reading a great novel. I was thinking about purchasing a chaise lounge for my room so I could have my own little paradise in my home. I looked up a few of really awesome chairs, one for every type of style. I can't decide which one I want for myself!

For the Modernist

This adorable tuffed Tiffany blue chaise lounge is perfect for any simple, yet elegant person. I love that it forms to fit your body. Perfect for those who like to peruse through Cosmo.

For the Tradtionalist

For the person that is more laid back, this beautiful Victorian chaise lounge will add a vintage appeal to any space. I love the fun floral print that has been added. The double backs allow for two friends to sit and gossip.

For the Outdoorsy

This looks like the most relaxing spot ever! I could image laying out getting a nice sun tan or having a summer drink. This is great for anyone would like to be outdoors.

For the American mom

This spot of relaxation would be perfect for a mother waiting on the school bus or for a sleepy baby. This spot looks so comfy for anyone needing a break from the hustle and bustle of life.

Which chaise is right for you??

Currently...

I have finally made it back after a crazy three weeks. I've moved into my apartment and almost everything has gone wrong. I laugh now, but seriously, can I catch a break? We've had issues with the moving van, the washing machine, and the cable and Internet. We haven't had Internet the whole time we've been here and as off 9 pm last night it was up and running. Facebook never looked so pretty.

As far as school goes, I'm actually not as stressed out this quarter as I thought I'd be. I'm very proud of myself in being ahead on due dates and getting things done well ahead of time. Speech is...well...alright I guess. I'm not the public speaker I would like to be by now but it's coming. Today, in fact, I'm doing an informative speech on Dreamland BBQ. Since I work there, it shouldn't be as hard. Then again, the last speech was on myself and I still managed to bomb it.

Kitchen and Bath Design is by far my favorite lecture class so far at VC. I've always been attracted to kitchens and baths more than any other room. The history is by far the most interesting. Learning what brought about a bathroom and a kitchen is quite the amusement. We're doing a refresh project in our instructor's home and not having all the dimensions is frustrating. I'm not enjoying it, but sooner than later it will all sort itself out.

Commercial II is coming along great. If I could locate and order the rest of my samples that would be nice. I'm going out of town next weekend so I have to get my furniture plan turned in beforehand. Shouldn't be that bad, I've got all of my furniture picked out already.

Fabrics and finishes will always be my favorite portion of a project. It's what I'm drawn to, it's what I'm passionate about, and it's what I remember after the project is finished. I love to coordinate textures and patterns and lay it all out on my floor and play with them. I'm a touchy-feely kind of person; I love to feel. I think back to the summer of 2010, when I was deciding on school, what lead me to chose ID was because I love the aesthetics of design, how a space looks and feels, and slowly I'm discovering that that is only about 15% of the whole picture. I'm designing these spaces, making them actually work not just look good. That is sometimes not always as easy as sitting in the floor and playing with finishes. It's all a part of it, though. I will have to do it all. I'm learning, growing, spreading my wings and becoming infatuated with what I do. I wouldn't trade it for anything. The world is a better place because of designers.

I hope you all are as excited about your career as I am. Have a great day!

Samples Galore!

I've started a new quarter and with that comes a new and bigger project. I'm doing a plastic surgery center and my city is Palm Beach, Florida so I'm right by the water. I've been picking out samples and trying to get some ordered because sometimes they don't like to come in on time. I started this quarter out by getting all my finishes and fabrics ordered early! The color scheme is really working out nicely: teal, ice blue, grey, and cream. There are more samples on the way but I thought you'd like to see what I was working on so far!

Right when you walk in, you'll this beautiful dolphin moasic tile! He's huge too, 76 X 51, and definitetly will set the tone for the rest of the space!

Happy Hump Day!

Where has the time gone??

I am getting ready to move into my FIRST EVER APARTMENT with a good friend of mine. We'll be moving out in a week. Packing as come to be my least favorite thing in the world to do. I wish I knew more on the amount of space I'll have but I won't know exact until the day we move in. So far I've shrunk my closet down to half its size and boxed up two tubs of winter clothes and one for Goodwill. I managed to narrow down my shoe collection into a small under-the-bed tub as well as my T-shirt addiction. I have far too many clothes.

I'm worried I won't have enough space so I'm learning to be an organizer. I'm taking full advantage of my queen size bed. I purchased an awesome two foot long tub with rollers and and lid than can be opened on either end. I will definitely be getting another for shorts and other things. I'm hoping I can make do with my closet space by adding more shelving. It's hard to downsize when you're used to three closets and two dressers. I honestly have no clue how it's going to work.

I'm excited about the decorating aspect, obviously. Haley and I have both put our own design schemes together and came up with a bright eclectic style. We have lots of colorful artwork and accents that will help liven up our space. And LOTS of pillows! I purchased three pieces from the thrift store in order to refurbish. One being a small nightstand, a coffee table, and an old brass lamp. The night stand was an ugly white with gold painted trim and what the previous owner called "Shabby Chic." Definitely not. I repainted it a bright turquoise and it looks fabulous! The coffee table is really neat. It's a retro piece, with two shelves on either end. I will painting is a chartreuse green. The lamp is by far my proudest achievement. With some help from my mother, I recovered an old white lamp shade in some material (not easy) and spray painted the brass base turquoise. I'm so excited at how it turned out!

I also inherited my grandmother's table and chairs, but the previous seat cushions didn't really fit my taste. So I got some think upholstery fabric and my mom recovered them for me! With the leftover fabric, she also made me a table runner! Can't wait to eat at my new table!

There are quite of few new things I've purchased for the place. Such as a toaster oven, some artwork, a whole new bath set, pillows, an adorable metal fork and spoon, cutlery set, pillows, a rug, kitchen stuff, and more pillows. BTW, the Alabama stuff is not mine. YUCK!

And that about sums up what I've been doing for the past couple weeks. There's more to come! Will show pictures soon. Wish me luck on the move!
