Designer Spotlight: Jonathan Adler

You know Adler when you see him. He has a very bright personality and his designs mimic. Plain is not a word in his vocabulary. He designs with color and color and more color.

What does he not do? Jonathan Adler is a extraordinary potter, creative designer, and hilarious author. Adler is known for his colorful spaces filled with random pieces that you can't help but to adore such as a vase made of breasts or a shiny brass banana. Why? Just because. His signature is mid-century modern mixed with art and global pop culture. The motto of his company, "If your heirs won't fight over it, we won't make it," reflects his commitment to craftsmanship and luxury.

A few of my favorite designs are the Parker Palm Springs Hotel and a real Malibu Barbie Dream House. He's done quite a lot of private residents as well.

He has written a few design books such as My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living, Jonathan Adler on Happy Chic Colors, Jonathan Adler on Happy Chic Accessories, and 100 Ways to Happy Chic Your Life. If you want your space to reflect you, then these are great spaces to start. An Adler room is a room that will make you smile. You just can't help it!

Visit the website, Jonathan Adler dot com, for tons and tons of decorating pieces such as pottery, furniture, rugs, lighting and more. There is also a huge amount of items for kid's rooms, as well. Life is too short to live in a boring room. In the words of Adler himself, "People who are afraid of color are afraid of life."

How Jonathan Adler came to be one of the household names in the Interior Design field. In this video, Part II, he talks about his love of pottery. In Part III, there's a tour of his home so don't miss it!

Guess Who's One?

One year ago today, we receive a precious little gift from God. I remember how teeny tiny she was. I forget how small babies are when they are first born. This little baby was a miracle baby that we were blessed to to have. I have loved watching this little girl grow and since they now live in Birmingham, I've get to see her at least three times a week! It's hard to believe a year has come in gone but I look forward to watching her grow into a beautiful little girl.

My sister and brother-in-law have made it through the first year, so today is about congratulating them as well. The first year isn't easy, especially with a new baby so I applaud you. I am proud of you. Take time to be with her while she's this little because one day you'll wake up and she'll be grown! You two have created a beautiful and sweet little girl! Happy One Year!

Happy Birthday Miss Evalee Anne!

I love you SO much! You make my life a joy just by being in it!

Today we celebrate her first birthday along with lots of family that will be driving in. I can't wait to eat and watch her open presents! Birthday pics are coming soon!

Have a great weekend!

Quote To Ponder On

with even just a few accessories, are every

Spring Is Here!

I caught my first glimpse of Springtime leaving work today. This beautiful Crabapple tree was in full bloom this afternoon. I had to stop and snap a photo. The pink blossoms look so bright in front of the clear blue sky. I'm looking forward to flowers and sunshine and warmth: all things that make Spring my favorite season.

It's been quite chilly the past few days so I've mostly been inside. I've been in an organizing mode. Since I've moved in, my closet has been a nightmare. I could hardly get inside and my clothes were so jammed on the racks that it took forever to find an outfit. In my happiness book, Gretchen proposed an amazing theory when it comes to cleaning your closet. There are three statements you say when you're looking for an outfit to wear. Here's what those statements really mean. "I would wear this" means that you haven't in fact worn it. "I have worn this" means that you've worn it twice in the past five years. "I could wear this" means that you've never worn it and you never will. When you find yourself saying the phrases it's a red flag for THROW IT AWAY! Same goes for shoes, handbags, scarves, and accessories. I have a pair of earrings that I love, but I have nothing in my closet that would remotely go with them. I've had the pair for about three years, and maybe worn them once. Boldly, out they went.

Spring cleaning can be fun when you have the mindset that you're de-cluttering your life. I feel so much better when I open my closet knowing that I only have five pairs of jeans to sort through instead of fifteen. One problem I had with cleaning out my closet was that I found that I have serious T-shirt withdrawal problem. I had about 100+ T-shirts all from events that I participated in. It was fun to look back and remember my high school days but it was time to get rid of a few. I'm now down to about 3/4 of what I started with. I'm still working on it...

I'm looking forward to rearranging my living room and changing it up a little bit. I've always been in love with the coastal, cottage look so I'm trying to lean towards that decor, especially in time for summer. It's going to be a slow process but I know that when I'm finished it's going to look great.

Hopefully, if everything goes as planned, I'm going to be adopting my first puppy. I've sat and thought about it long enough and I know in my heart that a dog would make my life so much more enjoyable. I'm looking at an authentic Siberian Husky from a breeder about an hour away. I'm going to take the trip up there and check them out and get all the information about taking care of one. If it's in my favor, I'll have a husky right around my birthday in May. I'm so anxious and excited about adding in this HUGE responsibility and that's an understatement. It's not something I can just give back, this dog will be in my life for a long time. I promise, I have evaluated the pros and cons of this scenario and I'm up for the challenge!

I'm about half way through The Happiness Project, and Gretchen never ceases to amaze me. She's so wonderful and I feel like I know her in real life. I urge you to purchase this book if you haven't already. It's seriously changed my perspective and I just all around feel better about life. Her new book, Happier at Home, is the next on the list.

Spring is here and that means all the fun seasons: Easter, Passover, St. Patty's Day, Mardi Gras, Cinco de Mayo, Graduation (for some), Mother's Day, my hunny and I's Anniversary and MY 21ST BIRTHDAY! Can you tell I'm excited?

I'll be posting holiday decor ideas for each of these seasons so get ready!

Quote of the Day

I've had a stressful couple of weeks and I think the angels in heaven knew I needed a break. Every night before I go to bed I peruse through my phone until I get really sleepy. So tonight, the first thing that popped up was this quote. I think it was a sign to change some things.

All the water in the world can't sink a ship unless it gets inside.

It really got me thinking about a lot and I wanted to share it with you guys. The negativity of the world can't put you down unless you let it inside of you. There are mean people in this world and they will throw rocks at you every chance they get. But you can't let it get you down. I've been reading a book called The Happiness Project and before I get off on a tangent about how AMAZING it is, I'll just say this - your happiness depends on you. Not someone else. No one can't take your happiness away from you unless you let them. Positive people are the happiest people. Sometimes it's impossible to be optimistic about something but knowing that it's not the end of the world is comforting. My favorite quote so far that I've come across in the book is this: "Don't let negative and toxic people rent space in your head. Raise the rent and kick them out!" I thought this was so true to my situation. Sometimes you just have to let go and let God control the outcome. You have to quit letting a bad day ruin the rest of your week. Every day might not be good but there is good in every day; you just have to find it.

So whenever you're feeling blue, remember that quote. I've already taped it to my fridge. It's so powerful and refreshing. I hope you all have a great weekend!
