22 Thankful Days - #4

I am thankful for these little nuggets.

Matthew, Mae Garner, Liam, and Evalee

Without these little joys in my life, I wouldn't have as much excitement and purpose. They are so much fun to listen to and watch them learn. I feel like I have purpose when I look into their eyes. The give me another name: aunt. I can see myself in all of them - because we all have our button noses! They are so special and so important in my life and I've become so attached and so in love with their smiles. I get butterflies everytime I get to see them. They aren't babies anymore but I still remember the first time I held them. So tiny and so unique. I'll never forget those days. Even though they probably wouldn't understand, I want to thank them for being a part of my life. For loving me, respecting me, and giving me courage to look at the world through the eyes of a child. Life isn't the same without you four. I'd do anything for you and I hope that when you're all teenagers, I'll be the cool aunt you actually want to come and hang out with! Aunt Natalie loves you more than all the stars in the sky and more than all the fishes in the sea.

22 Thankful Days: #3

I am thankful for my friends.

There's no way I can thank you all but you know who you are. Please don't unfriend me because your picture isn't here either. I literally just went through my camera pictures and found a few. You are all so special and so wonderful and I'm so grateful for a group of people that support me, encourage me, and advise me on life's decisions. And for those 50+ guys that make me feel so wonderful everytime we're around. I'm so happy to be a part of the sidelines of such an awesome fraternity.
I'm most thankful for second chances. Recently, I rekindled my friendship with an old friend. She was my best friend, my partner in crime (literally) and I'm so glad she's back in my life.
Friends make you sane and when the going gets rough it's those that care about the most that help you through it. You've all done just that. Whether we work together, go to school together, you live half way across the country, or just party together you are ALL so special. I love each and every one of you more than anything. Thanks for all you do.

22 Thankful Days - #2

I am thankful for my better half.

Jimmy Marion is seriously my favorite person in the whole universe and I'm so lucky to have him in my life. I've grown to love this man because of his compassion, loyalty, and honesty. He's pushes me to want better for myself. He encourages me and believes in me. He’s a great listener and always has some sort of advice that’ll help me with any situation. He has such a bright future ahead of him and I'm so proud of what all he's accomplished. I don't know what the future holds, but I’m thankful to have spent almost five years on this incredible journey. I've loved and cherished every day and there's never a day that goes by that I don't stop and thank God for someone so special. I’m so fortunate to have someone I can always turn to and someone I can trust with my heart.

Jimmy, I love you with all of my being and this year I want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for everything you've done for me. For spoiling me and making me feel like a princess, taking me on trips and to concerts even though you didn't even know who John Mayer was, for spending time with my family, for always trying to impress me somehow, for keeping your promises, for giving me something to laugh about every day, for loving me throughout all of the good times and bad, and mostly for just being you. You deserve a huge party with lots of cookie cake because you're just plain awesome. You're the best boy a girl could ask for and I fall harder every day.

22 Thankful Days - #1

I am thankful for my parents.

Where do I begin? I'll start by saying I'm thankful that they are still married and in love. Next, I'll say that they are both my superheroes. My parents have been there through it all. They've always given me a life that I took for granted. I've never had to worry about money or worry that I couldn't have nice things. They always provided me above and beyond my expectations. Every birthday, every Christmas, even those random days in between they are always giving without asking for anything in return. I'm ashamed that I don't appreciate that enough. They are two people I couldn't imagine my life without and I dread the day that I'll have to say goodbye. Today, I am more than thankful for my parents and their gift of life to me. My life is because of their existence. Everything I have is because they have generously given it to me. They deserve my utmost admiration today and every day. Mom and Dad, I love you and I appreciate everything you have done for me. I don't tell you enough just how grateful and honored I am to be your baby girl.

My Halloween In Pictures

I hope everyone enjoyed their Halloween. I hope you got some delicious candy and got to dress up as your favorite characters. This Halloween was on a random day of the week so I got together with my friends this past weekend. As you can remember from my post, I was a zebra. Here's my costume:

I know, I'm adorable. ;) Here's the rest of the girls that I went with. Excuse the terrible quality.

We had a great time! Tonight was fun as well. Instead of trick or treating, I went to my parent's house to hang out and see my niece. I decided that since I had bought candy for my neighbors, I'd leave it out for them. I was nervous that the first kid would just dump the bucket into his bag or just take the whole thing, but when I got home the bucket was still there and it was almost empty! Here's my cute bucket.

I'ts just a clear craft paint bucket from Michael's. It comes in handy for everything! On the way over to my mom's, I stopped by Target. That was probably a bad idea because I ended buying these two dresses.

Which I love!!! The one on the left is a black and ivory sweater dress and the right is a navy and khaki polka-dot chiffon dress with an accordion skirt. Love. Love. Love. Plus Target's prices are amazing. I got both of these for $20!

When you've had a crazy week like I've had, it's good to get a little joy put back in your life. And that's just what this beautiful little girl can do.

She's so happy all the time. She let's me forget about all the stressful daily situations for a little while and just have some fun. Her festive Halloween shirt said "I love mummy." She's so smart and learning things so quickly. She's starting to stand up by herself so hopefully in a couple of months she'll be walking on her own! Ahhhhhh I just love her little smile!!!!

The night ended with a delicious steak, potatoes, and steamed veggies from Outback Steakhouse. Yum yum! I hope you had a great night! I'm going to go sleep in my new flannel sheets that I also got today. So warm and cozy. Goodnight all.

Be well,

Our Life, Our Planet

When you were little, did your parents ever get you a fish to take care of? I'm sure your answer is yes. Everyone had a fish! I'm also sure your mom and dad told you it was your responsibility to feed the fish and clean it's bowl. I had a fish named Fred and he lived for about 7 years. Every morning, I'd wake up and feed Fred. It was my life goal to protect him. You're nodding your head right now in agreement. I bet you had the coolest fish tank or bowl for your fish too. Think about a fishbowl. It's an environment, a home, if you will, for our fellow fish friends. We made sure we cleaned that out every other week or else it would have been so slimey and so gross and our fish would've died. Then you would've had to have a fish funeral and you'd be upset for weeks. Okay, maybe that was just me.

This is going somewhere, I promise.

So our planet is no different than a fishbowl. We, as people, encompass that bowl. We live amongst each other and nature. We need clean water and clean air just as much as a goldfish does.

Am I making sense?

There's a term called "green" that I'm sure you've heard of. It can mean a lot of things to different people. Buying products made of sustainable material, products that are made with natural ingredients, eating local or organic, eating less or no meat, conserving energy, renewable energy, clean energy, living off the grid, creating your own energy, planting trees, recycling, and so forth. I'm sure you can think of a ton of products in your head that could be defined as "green." Or, maybe you can't and that's why I'm here.

Specifying green products will be a huge part of my job as a designer. It's so important to have knowledge about finding these products and using them in everyday life. Choosing to be green isn't easy; it's a lifestyle. There are so many ways that you can help save our planet at home, at work, at school, wherever you are! It all starts with simple habit changes.

I really want to encourage all of you to change one habit in your daily life that will benefit the environment. I have made a small list of great starters that are so easy to do. If you pick just one of these things it'll make all the difference.

  • During the day, keep the lights off. Open the blinds and let natural sunlight light your spaces.
  • Recycle cans, bottles, paper, plastic, etc.
  • Replace light bulbs with Energy Star lesser wattage bulbs. AKA the ice cream cone bulbs.
  • Buy recycled paper products for office and school use.
  • Stop using Styrofoam! It doesn't disintegrate.
  • Unplug lamps, chargers, electronics when not in use.
These are just a few things, but there are many more. Keep checking back for awesome new ways to benefit the environment in your daily life. I will be posting "green" products from time to time as I come across them.

It's your planet. It's up to you to keep it clean.
